This existing hotel on the Cromwell Road in Kensington is undergoing a major refurbishment with a new roof extension and complete remodelling of the internal layouts.
The existing structure was in a poor state of repair and required substantial remedial works, which were linked to the remodelling brief. Large sections of existing internal load-bearing masonry were replaced with new slender walls and/or steel box frames.
The new roof extension was constructed as a lightweight steelwork frame to create a new mansard level.
Walsh Associates worked closely with the Principal Contractor to produce a Health & Safety Action Plan and construction sequence that was sympathetic to the restricted site and the Contractor’s preferred construction sequence.
